2015 •  PMD Receives Outstanding Volunteer Service Award from Hearth on 6/10/15, in "recognition for their many (nearly 18) years of partnership and compassion for our residents, and for their dedication to meaningful volunteerism." To date, more than 500 PMD volunteers have helped with 99 PMD-organized service projects at Hearth residences, mostly preparing and sharing meals, but also performing needed grounds work.

 

2012 • PMD Founder Lori Tsuruda received the Active Citizenship & Public Service Award from Tufts University Alumni Association in April 2012.

2008 • PMD has been selected for the 2008 Catalogue for Philanthropy, an informative and innovative guide that engages donors in philanthropy with an emphasis on small to mid-size charities that do great work but rely on private donations to survive.

PMD Founder Lori Tsuruda was interviewed on Suffolk County Criminal Justice Connection on BNN TV live on 8/12/08, 1:00-1:30 PM.

PMD honors long-time volunteer Nancy Goldberg and Cornerstone Research for their outstanding commitment to informed and responsible community service.

 

2007 • Check out the Boston Globe special "Six and the City" (1/1/07) about people whose efforts help make Boston a better place. PMD Board Director and volunteer project manager Jennifer Blackmon is featured.

 

2006 • PMD honors Hearth-Home for Good and long-time volunteer Mary Reid for their outstanding commitment to informed and responsible community service.

 

2005 • National Braille Press honored PMD's Executive Director Lori Tsuruda and Neal A. Rosen, Chair of the PMD Board, a Trustee of the Press, and a litigation partner at Bingham, McCutchen LLP.

PMD won Boston Herald's award during the USA Weekend Make a Difference contest.

2002 • PMD is featured in South End News and part of FOX News Holiday Special about Volunteerism.

PMD honors Bingham Dana, National Braille Press, Hawthorne Youth & Community Center, and long-time volunteers Ian Agranat and Phil Milmoe for their outstanding commitment to responsible volunteerism.

 

2001  • The MIT Alumni Association wrote an article on PMD's founding entitled, "Making a Difference: MIT Alumna Makes a Career Helping Others" by Eve Downing.

 

2000 • The Boston Herald award is given to PMD in the USA Weekend Make a Difference Day contest for its 1999 Make a Difference Day project removing invasive Norway maple trees to help start a community garden in Dorchester.

Steve Brown of Billerica, Nancy Goldberg of Newton, Brenda Jovenich of Brighton, Phil Milmoe of Boston, and Anna Leung of Lynn are recognized by PMD.

 

1999 •  People Making a Difference through Community Service (PMD) and the National Braille Press have received a $2,000 award from Wal-Mart, the Points of Light Foundation, and USA Weekend for their 1998 Make a Difference Day community service project.

 

1998 • Boston Globe covers PMD’s annual Thanksgiving meal for 40 formerly homeless elders at the Anna Bissonnette House of the Committee to End Elder Homelessness.
