I have never had more fun playing any sport than I have had with Cheer. The first year that I Cheered was in fourth grade. I did it again the following year in fifth grade because I loved it so much. In sixth and seventh grade I took a break from Cheer, but in eighth grade, when the coach asked me if I wanted to come back, I couldn’t resist. After placing fourth at nationals in eighth grade I knew that I wanted to Cheer in high school. I was so scared at tryouts. I saw everybody with tucks and back handsprings and thought for sure that I was going to be cut. Thankfully I wasn’t and I spent and exciting year on JV. All of my teammates and coaches were so amazing and supportive. By the end of winter season our team had become a little family and I had made so many new friends.
I knew that I needed a spring season sport to do after Cheer. I heard that track didn't cut so I thought that it would be the perfect fit. When asked to choose an event group for track I noticed one in particular, pole vaulting. Throughout the whole year I have been trying new things and getting tossed up in the air at any particular moment had become normal to me. Pole vaulting is so crazy. Any instinct you think you might have about the sport is wrong. This year I cleared 5’6” and won myself a t-shirt. Although I haven’t set any records yet, I’m coming for that 10’6” girls pole vault school record.
Throughout middle school I knew I loved to sing. I was in all the choirs and all the musicals that my schedule could handle. One of the electivies I chose for my 9th grade year was concert choir. I started the year singing tenor with Carly, Nathan, and Dante in White Winter Hymnal. I ended the year as a soprano 1 singing notes higher than I ever thought I could. This year Choir has been so much fun. From learning new songs, to crazy dances, to kickball games against the band, I can’t wait for next year!
