In middle school, all 5th and 6th graders recieve general music but are also required to choose between band or chorus as a class during the school day. General music meets three days out of a six-day cycle for one trimester. There are after school opportunities for choir student to be involved in band and for band students to be involved in choir. Band students are encouraged to continue lessons (which now happen after school) with their same instructor. 5th and 6th grade band meets three days out of a six-day cycle whereas 7th and 8th grade band meet two days out of a six day cycle. Choir follows the same schedule. VAP is an elective for seventh and eighth graders who choose to experience three trimester classes in each of the following video, art, and performance (theatre) in lieu of participating in band or choir. With more opportunities to work as ensemble, students are given more opportunities to perform for an audience. Some of the additional opportunities include: Jazz Band, Specialty band, and Pops Chorus (all occur after school).
